THE KEYS TO SPANISH ART

GOALS
From the notion that a work of art reflects the character of a nation, its problems and successes, this course analyzes Spain´s contribution to the development of Western art over time through its most outstanding works: Rome´s legacy, the specificity of Al Andalus and the Hispanic crucible of cultures –Sephardis, Muzarabs and Mudejars-, the role of Spain in the European Renaissance, painting and sculpture during the Spanish Golden Age, the transition to the Modern Era and Goya, and the significant contribution of Spain to the avant-gardes.
METHODOLOGY
The academic lectures will be based on texts and images, as well as the various activities and visits to museums organized by the Center each term. Each session will be followed by a round of questions and discussion.
ASSESSMENT
The students will be asked to develop an individual project, tutored by the teacher and to be presented in class (40% of the final mark). The written examination at the end of the term represents the remaining 60% of the final result.
