Each course includes different complementary activities aimed at immersing the student in a university environment, as well as studying the different academic, professional and cultural aspects of the international programs in depth. Enjoy your experience!
Traveling abroad to study a whole semester is a key decision in the academic and personal development of university students. At Villanueva, international students benefit from the knowledge acquired through the different International Programs, as well as thoroughly improving their command of the Spanish language, both for everyday use and in their specific professional area of choice. However, studying abroad is most significant for the personal experience it represents. Living and studying in another country, far from one’s usual environment, and immersed in a different culture is a truly mind-opening adventure that makes you much more self-sufficient and independent.
Visit the city and other amazing places such as Madrid de los Austrias, Museo Reina Sofía, Museo El Prado, Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Tablao flamenco, Toledo city (just 30 minutes from Madrid) or El Escorial, with its monumental monastery.
A tapa is a small portion of delicious food that goes with your beer or wine. Madrid has some of the best tapas-bars in the world. A tarde de tapas in Madrid is a must.
The University organizes sports championships (soccer and other sports) between students of different nationalities or students and staff. The best way to meet some new friends and mates. Do you want to join us?
The University promotes projects to be developed jointly by international and Spanish students, such as designing and publishing a “university student guide” in different languages. Do you want to improve your Spanish?
At Villanueva we also like to celebrate traditional festivities, such as the Seville April Fair, Christmas holiday, Carnaval, Saint Isidro…with all the typical food, music, and customs associated with them. Are you ready to have fun?
Each term, a Gastronomic Meeting is organized to test and taste our culinary skills. Each student, Spanish and international, prepares a typical dish from their country (something simple, no need to be a Michelin chef!) and we all gather together for dinner.

Madrid has a wide range of theatres, music halls, museums, palaces and monuments, as well as an animated social life in its taverns and bars. Here you will find a city that never sleeps, and one known worldwide for its unique nightlife. Its traditional and popular celebrations counterpose the demanding entrepreneurial, financial and business life of the city. With its numerous theatres, auditoriums, and cinemas -mainly concentrated in the old Madrid area, and Gran Vía and Fuencarral streets – Madrid currently hosts one of Europe ́s most vibrant leisure scenes, reflected in a varied offer of musical and theater shows.
You could say that the first commercial venue to open in Madrid was a tavern. Nowadays, more than 100 of the traditional taverns established during the 19th century are still open for business. In fact, Madrid is home to the world’s oldest restaurant, founded in 1725: Casa Botín.
The once idyllic fields covered with orchards was chosen by the Bourbon dynasty, and especially King Charles III, to expand and embellish the city of Madrid. Among numerous other works, Charles III commissioned the construction of Paseo del Prado with fountains, a botanical garden and a building that would eventually host the Prado Museum.
Madrid has been described as “the city with a thousand faces”, and it might well be due to the wide range of architectural styles it hosts. Royal Palace, Almudena’s Cathedral, Cibeles’ Palace, Cibeles and Neptuno’s fountains, Puerta de Alcalá...
In the year 1561, King Philip II chose Madrid as the new capital of the kingdom and within a few years it grew into the center of a great Empire. Narrow streets lined with medieval churches rapidly sprouted to the east of the old Muslim fortress. Many monasteries, churches and palaces were built in Madrid during the Hapsburgs' Era.
The long and tree-lined Paseo de la Castellana represents the central axis of modern Madrid, with the highest concentration of contemporary and high-rise buildings in the city. An extension of the long avenue formed by the Paseo del Prado and Recoletos which culminates in the Plaza de Colón (Columbus' Square).
