Villanueva’s specialized Diploma in Fashion Communication and Management organizes its annual Fashion Retailing in Spain Summer School (FRS) this coming summer, from June 28th to July 14th, 2019.

Fashion Retailing in Spain is an intensive three-week program in English which includes classes given by renowned industry experts and professors from prestigious fashion schools such as London College of Fashion (LCF), Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York, Villanueva University (Complutense University Madrid) and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) in Scotland.

Since its initiation in 2012, more than 90 students have participated from countries such as Mexico, Germany, Sweden, Scotland, France, South Korea, Singapur, Venezuela, Chech Republic and Mexico, as well as Spain.

Now in its 6th edition, FRS is designed for those who want to learn first-hand what Spain’s vibrant fashion industry is all about and live it for themselves here in Madrid.

This intensive course offers two alternative itineraries:

  1. For those interested in focusing on learning about the business from a buyers point of view: Fashion Retailing in Spain: The store as the Brand; Customer Shopping Experience, and 
  2. For those interested more in a fashion marketing and communication perspective: Spanish Marketing Insights: PR & Showroom Events; Fashion Branding.

Both itineraries share these subjects: Spanish Industry Key FactsRetail Strategy and Internationalization, and Digital Fashion Trends in Spain.

The course includes extracurricular activities, such as visits to fashion industry headquarters, flagship stores and factories, as well as trips to Madrid’s famous shopping streets.  We will visit well-known labels, including Loewe, El Ganso, Pepe Jeans, Bimba y Lola, Hoss Intropia or Adolfo Domínguez.

For their evaluation, students will work together in teams on a final project where they will put into practice the knowledge learned about Spanish fashion, its most vigorous sectors, retail tendencies, brand strategies and other current trends.

Type/ Level of students present in class: International students from France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, México, Uruguay, Belgium, The Netherlands etc. Spanish students from: Law/ International Business/ Fashion Management/ International Relations Degrees.

Students Profile

Age 18 onwards. English Proficiency in conversation and Reading. No specific fashion background required.

Key Industry Activities

Visits to company headquarters, flagship stores and factories as well as retail routes in Madrid, the vibrant capital of Spanish fashion.


Students work on a Final Project in groups in order to apply knowledge learnt.

FRS Summer School Program (4, 5 credits – 40 hours)

FRS Summer School includes sessions in the Villanueva University Campus, north of Madrid, and also includes fashion retail routes across the city and visits to fashion company headquarters and factories. In addition, Madrid has a wide array of shopping-hubs and cultural and entertainment offers for you to enjoy.
