Villanueva is a University Center attached to the Complutense University of Madrid since 1997. Complutense is currently one of the most complete and prestigious public universities in Spain, highly regarded both nationally and internationally. Villanueva champions an innovative model of university that nurtures the social print of such an institution, already in its second millennium of existence. One of the major features of this model is our specialization in Social Sciences with a view to becoming more efficient both in interdisciplinary research, and its academic and professional application within our three Faculties: Communication, Law and Business, and Education.
The foundational goal of Centro Universitario Villanueva is to offer quality university education from a deeply Catholic notion of society and the individual. The teaching, tutoring and research developed by all the professionals who make up this university community are aimed at promoting a love of truth and freedom in every student, which, added to the transfer of knowledge and the formation of competences, contributes to their personal and professional development, as well as nurturing a search for common good as service to society.

Our students are trained in an open university environment where discussion, critical analysis and continuous assessment are essential. Academic lectures are combined with oral and written exercises, as well as face-to-face and virtual debates. Thus, students become professionals with great capacity for work, professional competence and spirit for service. Our conviction that they will have a major influence in their future personal and professional environments makes it indispensable for us to infuse the contents and the style of their training with human and ethical values, through both the subjects included in their regular curriculum and the complementary curriculum subjects, from Anthropology and Ethics to Professional Deontolongy.
Teachers are the central figures in this educational process. Our staff is therefore selected according to very demanding quality standards – which are invariably aligned with our main goals and involve their specific knowledge of the subject, as well as their teaching and pedagogical skills. These criteria guarantee a staff with a remarkable academic prestige and extensive experience. Our standards must always be higher than those set by quality and accreditation agencies.
Tutoring, an essential instrument in the best university tradition, is fundamental in Villanueva´s training process. All our students have a Programme Director as well as a personal tutor to orient them throughout their studies. Also, each teacher acts an advisor to the students in their learning of their subject.
Therefore, from its origin, CUV can be considered a unique and pioneering center for the excellence in teaching, invariably at the service of an integral university model in which the student is protagonist. Our commitment to the truth and its transmission is above any other principle or value. These ideas represent the essence of our way of understanding and feeling university.
Centro Universitario Villanueva has two firm criteria which are closely related to our identity. On one side, integrating our students into urban campuses, imbued with the current professional and social reality. On the other hand, maintaining our limited dimensions, an essential ingredient for the excellence we demand in all the areas in which the centre has specialized. For these reasons, Villanueva has approximately 2000 alumni and our schools are located in the centre of Madrid: Law and Business in Salamanca District (C/Claudio Coello, 11), and Communication and Education in Mirasierra District (C/Costa Brava, 2).
